About the University
Chuzhou University, founded in 1950，is a general provincial full—time undergraduate university with approval of National Ministry of Education. It is located in Chuzhou City of Anhui Province, a historical and cultural city, which is 50 kilometers away from Nanjing with superior location, convenient traffic and brilliant talents. The University is adjacent to the Langyashan Scenic Spot and the Old Drunkard Pavilion known as “the first pavilion under the sun”. Its campuses are a wonderful place to acquire learning in, which is green with luxuriant trees and pleasant with fragrant flowers and singing birds.
It occupies an area of more than 1 million square meters with two campuses of Langya and Huifeng. It has more than 15,500 full—time students on campus and a staff of 1020 at their posts，including 658 full—time teachers，of which 199 have senior professional titles like professors and associate professors，73 have a PhD degree，and 428 have a master’degree. Its teaching instruments and equipment has amounted to 110 million yuan. Various laboratories and 8 training centers are built on campus, and 118 practice and training bases are established off campus. Its library comprises 1,030,000 volumes of paper books and 610,000 electronic books. It openly publishes the magazineJournal of Chuzhou University and Chuzhou University Monthly Newspaper.
Fifteen Schools have been established. They are School of Literature and Journalism, School of Mathematical Science, School of Computer and Information Engineering, School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, School of Geographic Information and Tourism, School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, School of Biological Science and Food Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Music, School of Art and Design, School of Physical Education, School of Education Science, Teaching School of Ideological and Political Education and the School of Continuing Education. It offers 45 undergraduate specialties, which are subordinate to art, science, engineering, economics, management, pedagogy, agronomy, fine arts. A group of disciplines and specialties, teaching team, laboratory, training center, talent cultivation model are awarded respectively as national and provincial distinctive projects and programs.
The university also devotes much attention to scientific research and industry -teaching-research collaboration, and initiatively takes part in the local economic and social development. The university has established a good relationship with many government agencies and companies. In recent years, it has undertaken 84 national and provincial research projects and 338 research projects at municipal and departmental level and 188 projects in collaboration with enterprises and institutions, actively serving local economic, social and cultural development. The university has established OuYangxiu research center, WuJingzi research center, Phoenix Painting research centre one after another, carries out the research of local culture, such as OuYang xiu and the record of Old Drunkard Pavilion, WuJingzi and the unofficial history of the literati, ZhuYuanzhang and the culture of Ming Dynasty, local flower-drum and painting, and provide reference to the decision-making of local government.
The university attaches great importance to building distinctive campus culture. It holds the“hundred experts’ lectures” and “doctors’ and professors’ forum”, vigorously implements“students’ scientific research plan”、“the university students’ quality expansion plan”, supports 56 students’ associations, like the literature association, the news agency, the art group, the calligraphy and painting association, the soccer association, to carry out rich and colorful campus culture activities.
